Abstract

1,027,429. Frequency changing. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERWERTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. Feb. 15, 1965 [Feb. 18, 1964], No. 6429/65. Heading H2F. A microwave frequency multiplier comprises a rectangular waveguide 2 tuned to twice the input frequency #, an input waveguide 1 and output waveguide 8, a pair of series-connected non-linear elements (e.g. varactor diodes) D1, D2 across the short dimension of the waveguide, and a conductor 7 coupling the input waveguide to the junction of these two elements. As shown, a frequency doubler has the input waveguide tuned to # and the guide 8 tuned to 2#. A short circuit for frequency 3# is provided by a stub 5 of length # 3 / 2 , and frequency 3# is also tuned out by the adjustable stub 3. Frequency 4# is tuned out by stubs 4 and 9. A frequency tripler is also disclosed (Fig. 4, not shown), this being provided with suitable stubs for tuning. The rectangular waveguide has dimensions a and b which satisfy the relationships: ## 1 3# 1 a #5 #- <a< - and - < - #4 8 b 2
