A waveguide microwave mixer comprises a tunable asymmetric input filter 2 followed by a diode mixer 3 in which the filter reflects back into the diode an image wave which is generated during the mixing process, characterized in that the filter 2 acts as an impedance transformer and that an adjustable capacitive screw 8 located at #/4 at the image frequency, behind the output diaphragm 5 of the filter and the filter form a phase shifter which enables for the range of input frequencies, the diode 3 to be presented with that value of impedance at the image frequency to give maximum sensitivity. In Figs. 1 and 2, the energy from the aerial reaches the filter 2 via wave guide 1. The filter 2 comprises two inductive diaphragms 4, 5 and a capacitive screw 6. The local oscillator (not shown), is coupled in known fashion in between the screw 8 and diode 3 and screw 7 is used to adjust the output susceptance of the filter. The intermediate frequency is removed by coaxial means below diode 3.
