Abstract

1,027,256. Automatic control of textile machines. SINGER CO. June 25,1964 [June 27, 1963], No. 26415/64. Heading G3R. [Also in Division D1] In an automatic control system for a knitting machine an adjustable arm 117 of a potentiometer 116,forming a comparison network with a reference potentiometer 184, is positioned by a shaft 66 of an electro-mechanical computing device 60 determining fabric density in dependence on the closure of a switch 40 by the passage of a predetermined quantity of cloth and the closure of a switch 52 by a rotation of the needle cylinder. The alternating current error signal from the comparison network, representing the deviation of fabric density from a desired value, is fed through a minimum signal circuit 187, to avoid hunting, to an amplifier 186 and time delay circuit 188 which shows the system response to prevent sudden adjustments in density which form striations in the fabric. The output of the delay circuit controls a winding 183 of a twin phase servomotor 175 controlling a variable speed drive 161-166 of ajyarn conditioning device 150 of the knitting machine.
