Abstract
1,026,854. Drying apparatus. MIDLANDROSS CORPORATION. April 25, 1964, No. 17257/64. Heading F4G. [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for drying webs or bulk material carried on a conveyer comprises a conduit 23 extending transversely of the web and having a continuous longitudinal slot 27, means for delivering air to the conduit, a closure member 51 disposed in the conduit, and means for actuating the closure member, said means being subdivided into a plurality of independently operable portions whereby to vary selectively the escape of air over the length of the slot. The actuating means comprises a tubular resilient member 31 secured in a channel-shaped seat 33 and divided into a plurality of air chambers 38 by means of clips bolted to the seat 33. Each chamber 38 communicates with a separate high pressure line 46 so that it may be independently inflated to move the adjacent portion of the closure member 51 into engagement with the slot. A plurality of such conduits is arranged along the path of the web and is connected to a common source of air which may be heated.
