[Also in Division F2] A table for a screen-printing machine has suction means for holding a sheet thereon comprising parallel suction chambers 2 with suction openings 6, each chamber 2 being connected to a suction manifold 4 by one or more magnetically-actuated valves 7, which can be operated by an external control magnet 16. Each valve comprises a housing 9 of brass, an opening 12 to the manifold 4, a passage 3 to the chamber 2, a valve seating 10, a valve 11, 13, and an iron core 15 at the top end. The valve 11, 13 may be in one piece, but as shown comprises a part 13 which is a permanent magnet and a steel ball 11 which adheres thereto. In the closed position shown the attraction between the parts 13, 15 is not sufficient to raise and open the valve, but by moving an electromagnet or permanent magnet 16 perpendicularly to the direction of the chambers 2, the valves 7 can be opened as required according to the size of the sheet to be printed. By reversing the current through the electromagnet 16, or if it is a permanent magnet, by turning it through 180 degrees, valves 7 can be closed as required. Two magnets 16 may be provided each operative over one half of the table. Operation of the valves may be effected by a magnet 16 underneath the table. The valves are removable through openings in the bottom of the table 1.
