Abstract

1,026,323. Universal joints; bearings; seals. B.R.D. CO. Ltd. July 21, 1964 [July 27, 1963], No. 29893/63. Headings F2A, F2B and F2U. A lubricant seal 16 for each journal pin 11 of a needle-roller bearing Hooke's type joint comprises a rubber ring having a body portion 15 seating on a radiused fillet 13 on an inner shoulder of the journal pin 11 and an axially extending flange 21 seating over the end of the needle race cup 18, the rubber flange having an annular rib 22 engaging a groove in the end of the race cup. The body 15 is reinforced externally with a metal ring 20 and a nylon disc 24 is interposed between the sealing ring body and the end of the needle race cup to reduce friction. A second shoulder 14 limits radial inward movement of the bearing needles 17.
