Abstract

1,026,278. Telegraphy. SIEMENS & HALSK A.G. May 20, 1963 [May 21, 1962], No. 19927/63. Heading H4P. A telegraph exchange comprises a number of channels which, when a particular combination of channels is energized, establishes communication from one subscriber to another. Broadcast connections can be set up. The system illustrated employs lines 1-5 and units SE1-SEn, EF1-EFn in an exchange which caters for subscribers Tn1-Tnn. With binary marking of the lines n = 32. When a calling subscriber Tnl wishes to communicate with Tnn he causes SE1 to be set so that each signal element from Tn1 is present simultaneously on lines 1, 2, 4, 5, in the exchange. Unit EFn is the only unit which responds to energization of these four lines, and thus signals from Tn1 pass to Tnn. Subscriber Tnn, upon receiving the calling subscriber's identity, sets up SEn at the exchange so that signals from Tnn pass through wires 3, 4, 5 only. This combination corresponds only to unit EF1 and so Tnn can communicate with Tn1. The signals from the subscribers are differentiated at PUs to provide pulse trains in which each pulse corresponds to a transition in the signals. The pulse trains from the exchange are converted to telegraph signals at PUe. Instead of being set by the calling subscriber, SE1-SEn may be set via r1-r5 under the control of a central register. Lines 1-5 can be replaced by a single line having five frequency channels.
