Abstract

1,073,607. Telegraphy. SIEMENS A.G. March 4, 1965 [March 4, 1964], No. 9189/65. Heading H4P. A teleprinting system comprises means, operating at one speed and coding, for setting up and checking a connection between two teleprinters which subsequently communicate at another speed and coding. In the embodiment described, the connection is set up by dialling, and then the W.R.U. signal (Figs., D) is sent from the calling keyboard in 5-unit code at 50 Bd. The called subscriber detects, but does not print, this signal and returns an Identification signal (C.R., L.F., Figs., 1) in 5-unit code. The digit 1 in the Identification signal indicates the mode of transmission in which the associated called teleprinter operates, e.g. 6-unit 200 Bd. The Identification signal is detected at both the called and calling stations and if it indicates the desired transmission mode, the teleprinters communicate in 6-unit 200 Bd. code, the local receivers and serial-parallel converters being switched to operate in this mode. The W.R.U. signal is again transmitted by the calling station, in 6-unit code now, and is replied to by the Here Is signal identifying the called station. The checking being complete, data now passes between the subscribers.
