Abstract
1,026,195. Discharge tubes; electrode processirig. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 2, 1962 [Aug. 3, 1961], No. 28164/61. Heading H1D. During processing of a discharge device comprising two photo-sensitive electrodes 7, 8, a support 5 for one of these electrodes is movably mounted to enable it to face towards or away from the second electrode support 2. Photo-sensitive material 7, 8 is simultaneously deposited on the facing surfaces of supports 2, 5, while the sensitivity of one of these electrodes is monitored by connecting it in an electrical circuit with the other electrode or with a further electrode 19. Afterwards support 5 is moved so that electrode 7 faces away from electrode 8. As shown, the device is an image intensifier comprising photo-cathodes 8, 7, luminescent screens 6, 4 and accelerating electrodes 19. Support 5 may comprise a glass or mica disc in a metal frame mounted on diametrically opposite pins for rotation through 180 degrees in an outer frame 11. The photocathodes are formed from antimony, evaporated from a point-source midway between supports 2, 5, and are sensitized with sodium or potassium vapour introduced through a side-tube. During processing of a four-stage image intensifier, Fig. 6 (not shown), the photo-cathodes are formed in pairs in the first and third sections, the supports for the second and fourth photocathodes being rotatably mounted.
