Semi-elliptical and laminar springs.-To exclude water &c. from a vehicle-spring shackle, and to facilitate lubrication, plates G are applied to the edges of the two flat links A forming the shackle, so as to form a rectangular chamber closed at the top and bottom by the hanger D and the spring eye F. Packing J is placed under the plates G, which are held in position by bolts H. Lubricant is inserted through a pipe L and passes through passages in the bushes from the upper pin C to the lower pin E. The plates G may be fixed more or less permanently to the links.
