Abstract

1,025,490. Poultry houses. E. V. ESPENHAHN. March 9, 1965 [March 25, 1964], No. 12607/64. Heading AIM. A poultry house for free range poultry is provided with an entrance 1 having a sliding door 3 to which is attached a nut 9 which runs on a screw 8 driven by a reversible electric motor 8 actuated under the control of a time switch, switches 12, 13 being provided to stop the motor when the door reaches its fully closed or fully open position. A further switch 14 actuates an electric fence round the range area when the door 3 is open. A fox-trap 2 is located adjacent entrance 1 and is closed by a curtain 7 attached to bracket 6 on door 3 so that as the door is raised the curtain 7 is also raised. The trap comprises a hinged flap 15 attached by a cable 16 to a latch 18 supporting; a door 20 the arrangement being such that pressure on the flap 15 pulls latch 18 clear of flange 21 on the door which therefore falls to close the trap. One or more feed hoppers may be provided within the house having covers raised or lowered by motor driven screw mechanisms controlled by time switches. A brooder B is provided. The door 3 may be opened by a time switch and closed by a photo-electric device.
