Abstract

1,024,972. Dispensing containers. UNILEVER Ltd. Aug. 17, 1962 [Sept. 15, 1961], No. 33266/61. Heading B8D. A resiliently deformable container for shampoo and the like having a body 1 and a head portion 3 defining a passage 5 through which substance is dispensed has an apertured diaphragm 6 across the passage positioned inwards from its outer end to prevent air being sucked into the body portion when the container starts to resile after dispensing some of its contents. The diaphragm may be curved inwards and has a plurality of openings 7 which may be positioned around the periphery of the diaphragm to ensure that the contents are extruded in a single stream. To further this purpose an insert 10 is provided in the passage having an annular recess 12 on to which contents squeezed from the container impinge and are deflected towards the axis of the passage. In one example a substance of viscosity 40,000 centipoises was used and the diaphragm had openings of less than 2 millimetres and in another the viscosity was 4000 centipoises and the openings less than 1 millimetre diameter. The passage may be of reduced diameter at its outer end, and may be so reduced that the contents can be delivered drop-by-drop.
