[Also in Division F2] A pallet 1 carrying boxes 2 on a gravity roller conveyer with free rollers 3 and side guide rollers 5 is retarded by brake rollers 6 spaced at intervals of two pallet lengths. Each brake roller 6 with a body 8 is rotatable on an axle 7 rigidly and non-rotatably supported in a bracket 8<SP>1</SP> carried on a section 9 of the framework. A sun-wheel 13, Figs. II, III (not shown), fixed on an extension 10 of the axle 7 meshes with a planet-wheel 14 rotatably mounted on a pin 15 in the body 8 of the wheel 6, which is surrounded by a rubber tyre 18 arranged to be slightly proud of the rollers 3. A cover-plate 11 covers the sun- and planet-wheels 13, 14 which form a gear-pump forcing oil from a first chamber 16 to a second chamber 16 and thence through a restricted passageway 17 to the first chamber 16. Thus, as a pallet 1 passes over a roller 6, the resistance to the pumping action of the gear pump brakes the roller 6.
