Abstract

1,125,586. Roller conveyers. STUAS STANZWERK UND APPARATEBAU SIEGERLAND GROOS K.G. 13 Oct., 1965, No. 43475/65. Heading B8A. A braking device for braking articles moving along a roller conveyer, comprising a roller 5, Fig. 1, projecting between and above two adjacent rollers 2 of the conveyer, and a centrifugal brake 13, Figs. 3, 4, drivably connected to the roller 5 by a roller 6 and gears 11, 12. The roller 5 is supported within a housing 1 upon the roller 6 and a roller 7, the roller 6 and the gear 11 being fixed on a shaft 10 and the roller 7 being rotatably mounted on a pivoted lever 8 which is biased to turn clockwise by a spring 9. The roller 5 is coated on the outside with rubber and the roller 6 has a knurled surface. In a modification (not shown) the lever 8 is replaced by levers which are interconnected by a spring and are arranged to operate in scissors fashion, one of the levers being in approximately the same position as the lever 8 and the other being at a steeper angle. In operation the roller 5 is always in frictional contact with the roller 6 and may be connected to the latter by an endless belt or chain disposed in grooves in the rollers. The sides of the grooves of the roller 5 may have friction layers-thereon. In another modification (not shown) the roller 5 is annular and is supported by rollers which engage its interior surface and functionally replace the rollers 6 and 7.
