Abstract

Insulating winding tapes for high voltage electrical machines and parts comprise a porous carrier, e.g. a fabric or unwoven web, especially a fabric of glass continuous filaments, polyester fibres or mixtures of these, mica flakes or mica paper, and a coating of an epoxy resin containing no plasticizer, having an epoxy equivalent of 150-400, a viscosity of at least 500 cps at 50 DEG C. (preferably 70,000-90,000 cps), and an adhesion temperature lower than 80 DEG C., and containing a hardener comprising an anhydride such as hexahydrophthalic anhydride or methyl-endo methylene tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, or a latent hardener such as BF3 or dicyandiamide. The resins used may be derived from bis-phenols but preferably are those containing glycidyl-phenylethyl groups.
