Abstract
1,024,694. Drying seeds. H. HOFT, and W. HOFT. Sept. 27, 1962 [Oct. 3, 1961], No. 36741/62. Heading F4G. In a process of drying seeds, the seed is continuously vibrated whilst being conveyed in countercurrent to drying air through a series of zones in which the air is of increasing temperature, and is finally conveyed through a cooling zone. A drying tower is divided into superposed drying zones 7I . . . 7IV and cooling zones 6, 6a by closed plates 29, through which zones the seed falls from a storage container 11, with an adjustable inlet 32, on to alternately inclined screens 27 in each zone, which screens are given both horizontal and vertical components of motion by two support frames 15, one inside the other. The frames are supported on the tower base on double links 14 and are connected via push rods 21 to vertical camshafts 16 driven by a motor 38. Air is supplied to each zone from blowers 3I, 3II, 3III for counter-current flow relative to the material so that the grain is initially swept with relatively cool air and is increasingly heated by hotter air until it is conveyed through the cooling zones. The air for the drying zones is heated by a plant 2 and is controlled in temperature by adjustable electric heating elements in branched and valved conduits 5a, 5b leading from the blower 3II, 3III into inlets 33 in each zone, which zones each have an outlet 34 for connection to a common exhaust conduit 25. A conduit 4 leads from the blower 3I into the air inlets of the cooling zones 6, 6a.
