Abstract

1,102,264. Heating and cooling granular materials. BUELL ENGINEERING Inc. 1 Feb., 1966, No. 4463/66. Heading F4U. Particles of fertilizer flow in counter flow to cooled, heated, or ambient air to effect heat exchange. The particles from hopper 10 are deflected by inclined plates 34 to form a curtain about inclined perforated plates 26-4a, 26-4b which are adjustably suspended from chains 30a, 30b. The particles then flow downwardly through perforated plates 26-1 to 26-3 and out through outlet 38. The air from inlet 16 is drawn upwardly through the perforated plates to outlet 22 by fan 18 driven by variable speed motor 20. Alternatively, the fan could be situated at the air inlet. The air flow is sufficient to produce a turbulent zone above the plates, but permits the downward passage of particles therethrough. The perforations comprise substantially half the area of each plate.
