Abstract
Lithium is prepared by fusion electrolysis of a molten mixture alkali metal compounds containing LiCl e.g. at 400-480 DEG C., wherein Cl2 evolved is reacted in the electrolysis cell, e.g. in the anode collecting chamber, with an O-containing Li compound such as Li2CO3 or LiOH to form LiCl2 which serves to replenish the molten mixture.
