Abstract

An effervescent composition comprises per unit dose (a) 0.15-0.75 g of calcium in the form of at least one physiologically acceptable calcium salt, (b) 0.02-0.5 g of ascorbic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof, (c) 0.25-0.01 g. of cyclohexyl sulphamic acid in the form of at least one water-soluble, physiologically accepttable salt thereof together with 0-9 g of sugar, (d) 0.3-4.5 g. of at least one palatable, physiologically acceptable effervescent material, and (e) an amount of physiologically acceptable flavouring material to make the composition palatable, the ingredients being chosen in such a way that the composition is water-soluble. A preferred composition includes calcium lactate gluconate and calcium carbonate (as source materials for calcium), ascorbic acid or sodium or potassium ascorbate, 0.01-0.05 part by weight of the sodium or calcium salt of cyclohexyl sulphamic acid for every part by weight of sugar, effervescent material compounded from sodium or potassium bicarbonate and citric or tartaric acid, and natural or synthetic lemon, orange or grapefruit flavours, or such other flavourings as blackcurrant, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and chocolate. The composition may include a permitted colouring agent.
