Abstract

1,023,743. Fermenting tea leaf. DAVIDSON & CO. Ltd. Dec. 4, 1964 [Dec. 17, 1963], No. 49727/63. Heading A2B. Withered and rolled tea leaf is fermented by feeding it to the higher end of a rotating axially inclined drum 11 through an opening 22 and feeding air conditioned to preferably at least 95% relative humidity and at a temperature between 70‹ and 80‹F. into the drum 11 either through an opening 26 at the lower end of the drum 11 or by means of a conduit (not shown) passing through the opening 26 and extending to a perforated length of conduit in the upper half of the drum 11. The tea leaf is fed in continuously and is withdrawn through a discharge orifice 30 at a rate controlled by the degree of opening of a door 31. The drum is driven by conventional means.
