Abstract

1,023,321. Valves. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Feb. 22, 1963 [March 2, 1962], No. 8264/62. Heading F2V. A check valve opening in either direction and suitable for use in the master cylinders of vehicle hydraulic braking systems comprises an apertured plate 1, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), e.g. of metal or plastic material, and apertured, flexible valve members 6, 7 of natural or synthetic rubber or plastic material on each side of the plate, the elongated aperture 9 in each valve member exposing those plate apertures that are closed by the other valve member. As shown, the plate has a central bleed orifice 12 uncontrolled by the valve members and four apertures 2, 3, 4, 5 of which the pair 3, 5 are exposed by the aperture in the valve member 7 and the pair 2, 4 are exposed by the aperture in the valve member 6. The two valve members 6, 7 may be formed integrally, as shown, with a projection 11 for engagement with one of a pair of recesses 10 in the plate 1 to ensure correct registration of apertures, or they may be formed separately and each bonded marginally to the plate. In a modification the plate, which tapers in thickness from its centre towards its periphery, has five sector-shaped apertures and their size and spacing in relation to the apertures in the valve members, which are integral with each other, are such that no particular registration of apertures is necessary.
