Abstract

1,022,461. Securing record tape reels. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 23, 1962 [Oct. 26, 1961), No. 40104/62. Heading G5R. [Also in Division F2] A reel 2 is releasably held against axial movement on a hub 1 by tongues 10 carried in radial guides 11 on a ring 3 which is axially movable on the hub 1, and a rotatable control member 7 has cam grooves 18 engaged by pins 19 on the tongues 10 and also co-operates with cams on the hub 1 or ring 3 so that rotational movement of the control member 7 causes axial upward or downward movement of the ring 3 together with radial inward or outward movement of the tongues 10 to release or grip the reel 2. The ring 3 is biased downwardly by springs 9 and engages a flange 8 on the control member 7. The flange 8 has a projection 13, Fig. 2 (not shown) which co-operates with a cam 12 on the hub 1 to raise or lower the ring 3 together with the control member 7. The ring 3 may be raised or lowered independently of the control member 7 by providing the cam between the ring 3 and control member 7. The cams 8, 12 are shaped so that the ring 3 is raised prior to the tongues being moved radially inward. Torque is transmitted by a lug on the hub 1 engaging a recess in the reel 2.
