Abstract

1,022,002. Vehicle suspension. T. P. BENNETT. Nov. 6, 1964 [Nov. 6, 1963; July 31, 1964], Nos. 43793/63 and 30391/64. Heading B7D. A motor vehicle suspension comprises a pair of wheel carrying arms 10, 11 mounted on horizontal spindles 15, 16 at the ends of trailing arms 17 which are pivotally connected to a chassis frame 18 by transverse bars 19 which may be torsion bars. Transverse bars 20 and 23 are pivoted at their ends 21, 22 and 24, 25 to the upper and lower ends of opposite wheel carrying arms whereby, upon cornering, both wheels will incline towards the centre of the vehicle and the track will increase slightly. In a modification, the tilt of the inner wheel becomes less towards the vehicle centre, zero or away from the vehicle centre according to dimensions chosen by pivoting the lower ends of the transverse bars on downwardly depending flanges fixed to each trailing arm. In both embodiments, the track of the wheels is not changed in ordinary vertical movements.
