Abstract

1,021,745. Determination of moisture content. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 25, 1964 [Oct. 1, 1963], No. 38595/63. Heading G1S. In apparatus for measuring the water content of a solid material e.g. a fertilizer, the material is loaded into a chamber 18 and falls into a grinding vessel 1 under the control of a valve 20. Methanol is run into the vessel 1 through a conduit 17 and a motor 3 operated to drive rotatable blades 15 to grind the material. A non-rotatable set of blades 14 and baffles 16 are provided to prevent a vortex effect and propel the liquid downwardly. After a suitable length of time the motor 3 is stopped and the methanol plus absorbed water run off into a Karl Fischer reagent titration plant. The lower part of the vessel is provided with outlets for the removal of liquid and settled out material.
