Heading BIC. {Also in Division A4] A device, for comminuting stale bread in a water stream to be mixed therewith to form a stale bread dough, comprises a container I having a propeller type comminuting tool 10 mounted on one end wall 8 thereof to extend axially into a pipe or like tunnel secured within the container I. The tunnel is defined between an inclined trough 4 and a tunnel-like covering 11 secured to the trough 4. In use, the requisite amounts of bread and water are introduced through a top inlet 20 and the motor driven tool draws a re-circulated water stream through the tunnel and cornminutes the entrained bread. Over the bottom outlet 7 is disposed a fine comminuting device 14 comprising rotary cutters 13 which co-operate with a perforated plate 15 and rotary ejector vanes.. 17. The housing 18 for the vanes is connected with a pipe 19 which can pivot between a position over the inlet 20, to return the material to container for further comminuation, and a position in which the material may be discharged elsewhere for further working.
