Abstract

1,021,065. Wrapping machines; endless conveyers. CARL DROHMANN G.m.b.H. Nov. 14, 1963 [Feb. 5, 1963], No. 45073/63. Headings B8A and B8C. In a wrapping machine, each article G is fed through a folding tube 1, together with a wrapper which is folded into U-shape about the article, by means of one of a number of drivers 5, each pivotally connected to a pair of endless claims 8 by rods 15. The drivers are guided by rollers 13, Fig. 2 (not shown), running in a pair of spaced hysteresis-shaped stationary rails 14, their direction of movement being instantaneously reversed as the rods 15 traverse wheels 6 and 7. Each operating stroke of a driver 5 carries an article G into a vertical web E, from which a wrapper is severed, through folding tube 1 where plates 2, 3 fold the extending ends of the wrapper, and finally to a position where folders 25, 26 may complete the folding at the rear of the article. The driver is reversed at the end of its operating stroke and is caused to move on the lower branch of the hysteresis by mechanical switches 17. These switches are weighted to assume the position shown and are movable to allow forward movement of the driver along this top branch, but prevent rearward movement therealong. Return to the top branch is effected by similar switches 18. Pivoted pusher plates 10 are held in an operative position by magnets 22, Fig. 3 (not shown), but are rotated through 90 degrees by a pivoted pawl 21 as the drivers 5 are reversed to minimise the opening required in table 16. Passage for pivot pins 27, which connect rods 15 to the chains 8, is effected by pivotable parts 28, 29 of the rails 14.
