Abstract

A strainer for a self-priming centrifugal pump comprises a tubular member 11, Fig. 1 (not shown) lodged in a cylindrical casing 14 whose peripheral wall 15 is perforated, the lower end of the member being cut obliquely to form an elliptical inlet-opening 12 near to the bottom of the casing whereby liquid can be drawn from a shallow pool. In a modification the casing has a handle at the top.
