Abstract

[Also in Division H3] An alarm communicator comprises a first circuit having a first semi-conductor four-layer device SCR1 connected to a first pulsed D.C. supply A; a second circuit having a second semi-conductor four-layer device SCR2 connected to a second, complementary, pulsed D.C. supply B; means IC, for triggering the first device SCR1 in response to a fault condition; means AC for triggering the second device SCR2 in response to the acknowledgment of a fault; means (diode D4, resistor R4) connecting the device SCR1 to device SCR2 to provide a maintaining current for SCR2 through SCR1; means for maintaining the first device, SCR1, conductive; and a warning circuit connected to both the first and second circuits. In a first embodiment, Fig. 1, closure of alarm contacts IC connect the trigger electrode of a silicon controlled rectifier SCR1 to a positive potential to switch it on. The rectifier is then maintained conductive by the D.C. supply through R2 even if the fault clears, and the pulsed supply on line A causes alarm lamp L to flash. To acknorledge the alarm, an operator closes contacts AC to fire silicon controlled rectifier SCR2 which is then held conductive by the current through SCR1, diode D4 and resistor R4. Line B then supplies a second pulsed supply to lamp L in antiphase with the first so that the lamp is lit steadily. Further visible and/or audible alarms may be connected to point T. The circuit may be modified to respond to persistent fault conditions only by removal of link P1 so that rectifier SCR1 will only be held conductive as long as the fault condition persists. In an alternative circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown) the SCR's are replaced by PNPN diodes and the triggering circuits are modified to cause the negative potential on the cathodes of the diodes to be increased.
