Abstract

101,994. Grant, T. Feb 4. 1916. Interconnecting guard with starting-gear.-A safety guard for biscuit or dough brakes is locked in position by the starting-lever when the machine is running, and when open it locks the starting-lever so that the machine cannot be started until the guard is closed. A guard a is hinged at b at each side of the machine, and is held in position by a plate d on the starting-lever c engaging a projection j. Two starting-levers c are interconnected, and the arrangement is such that, when the guard on the side of the machine at which the material passes towards the rollers D, D<1> is locked, the other guard on the discharge side is free to be moved. When the machine is stopped, the guard can be raised, and it is held in the open position by a spring catch f on the plate d against a stop-flange i; in this position, the projection engages the curved edge of the plate and prevents the lever c from being moved until the guard is lowered. When a thick mass of dough is being passed between the rollers, there is no danger of the operator's hands being caught, and the guard can therefore be left unlocked. To permit of this, the guard can be moved transversely away from the plate d, except when held in the lower positions of the roller D, by guiding- grooves formed on extensions of the bearing-bush.
