Abstract

1,019,937. Valves. HALLARYDSVERKEN A.B. Feb. 6, 1963 [Feb. 23, 1962], No. 4901/63. Heading F2V. In a quick release device for emergency actuation of a valve member to the open position, e.g. for release of fire extinguishing fluids, or to the closed position, e.g. to shut off the flow of inflammable fluids, the valve is retained in the inoperative position against the action of a spring by a catch which is released by a hydraulic or pneumatically actuated piston which also assists the action of the spring to displace the valve member in the event of jamming. Obturating face 5, upon valve stem 4 passing through stuffing box 3, is retained in the open position against the action of a spring 9 by means of the engagement of pin 11 with catch pawl 10 which is pivotable about fixed point 16. The pin 11 is secured between two branches of forked lever 12 through which a slot 13 in each branch is traversed by a pin 14 secured to the valve stem 4. The lever 12 is pivotable about fixed point 15 to engage pin 11 with the catch plate 10 which is disengaged upon engagement of nose plate 18 by the conically tapering cam portion of descending hydraulically or pneumatically actuated piston 20. A plurality of hydraulic cylinders 19 may each be actuated from individual piston pressure transmitters employing a common reservoir to compensate for possible fluid leakage.
