Platform machines; relieving and locking mechanism.-An apparatus for testing the weight of shells comprises a platform weighing-machine 4 provided with a steelyard 7 connected to an automatic weight-indicating mechanism 14, preferably of the kind described in Specification 12830/11. The indicating chart 16 is graduated with the zero in the centre, so that a deflexion of the pointer 15 to one side or the other indicates the excess or deficiency in weight of the shell from the weight of a standard shell. The platform 1 of the machine is arranged at a convenient height for rolling the shells 13 from a trolly 29, the platform levers being meanwhile relieved by means of a handle 2. The steelyard is locked by means of two cams 8, 9 connected by a link 25 and operated by a handle on one of the cam shafts. A spring 27 returns the cams to the inoperative position when the handle is released. The cams and the relieving-mechanism for the platform levers may be operated by the same handle.
