[Also in Division F1] An hydraulic coupling 14 of the scoop-tube controlled type is mounted between a centrifugal pump 13 and an electric drive motor 12, the tube 28 being controlled by a linkage so arranged that the effective linear movement of the tube is reduced as the speed falls from a high to a low value. The tube control mechanism includes a pressure-responsive motor 24 with a shaft 26 carrying an arm 31 rotated counterclockwise as the pump speed and delivery pressure fall. The arm 31 carries a longitudinally adjustable block 36, a link 43 being connected to the block and to the upper end of tube 28. In the high-speed setting link 43 is approximately perpendicular to arm 31 so that the extent of movement of the tube consequent upon rotation of shaft 26 and arm 31 is at its maximum, the extent of movement being reduced as the arm moves to the low-speed position. The configuration is such that adjustment of block 36 along arm 31 has little effect on the position of tube 28 in the high-speed position, but greater effect at the low-speed position.
