Abstract
1,018,664. Drying roofs. W. D. CHISHOLM. Nov. 20, 1963 [Aug. 21, 1962(2)], Nos. 32013/62 and 32014/62. Heading E1S. A roof having a layer of porous insulation 2 covered by a layer of waterproof material 1 is dried by a current of air passing through a channel 3 in the roof, the air then being cooled, the moisture extracted and the air recirculated. Air is drawn from the channel 3 by a pump 8 and driven through a cell 9 containing a cooling coil, then to a centrifugal water separator 10 and a hood 6 over the channel 3, the cool air in the hood 6 cooling and condensing moisture in the channel 3. From the hood 6 the air returns to the channel 3 by a pipe 4. Channels 3 are distributed over the roof. The apparatus may be controlled by a time switch to provide for defrosting periods. The apparatus may be portable. Various channels are shown including channels for the edges of flat roofs and roofs with parapets.
