[Also in Division H2] A dry shaver comprises cutting mechanism 19, Fig. 3, a motor 27 and drive means 28 mounted in a casing 22 comprising complementary sections 23, 25 provided with abutting walls 23a, 25f, Fig. 13, and 23b, 25g, which are locked together by clips 137 engaging slits 138 in the walls, the sections 23, 25 having recesses 140 in which are received resilient grommets 141 engaged by projections 31a, Fig. 3, of a casting 31 defining the lower end of cutter chamber 30. The motor is energizable by means of a battery unit comprising batteries 26a to 26d housed in a rack 86, Fig. 13, enclosed within a housing section 24. The motor comprises an armature 50, polepieces 53, 54 and a permanent magnet 55. The polepieces have secured thereto a combined bearing and brush support 61 in which are mounted a bearing 64 for the armature shaft 51 and brushes 75a, 75b, the brushes being mounted in holders 74a, 74b, Fig. 12, so as to be spring-biased into engagement with a commutator 67 rotatable with shaft 51. An electric circuit, Fig. 15, connecting the battery unit 26 and motor includes a switch 93 having fixed contacts 94a, 94b and movable contacts 95a, 95b, the unit 26 being rechargeable by means of a circuit comprising a rectifier unit 103, a capacitance 109 and a pair of terminal pins 102a, 102b, which are connectible with a plug connector 101 only when the switch 93 is open. The switch is controlled by a member 121 comprising a button 121a and a slidable door 121b which has projections 121c (not shown), 121d which, when the member 121 is moved to its lower position, move the contacts 95a, 95b into engagement with the contacts 94a, 94b to close the switch; at the same time, the door 121b is moved across an opening 131 to cover the pins 102a, 102b. The switch and rectifier unit are mounted in chamber 34 of casing section 25 and the capacitance is mounted in chamber 35 of casing section 23. Means are provided for locking the upper ends of casing section 24 to casing sections 23, 25. The motor may be operated directly from a conventional A.C. source by means of a step-down transformer and rectifier unit 156, Fig. 16, connected to a plug connector 159. When the connector is engaged with terminal pins 102a, 102b, contacts 161a, 161b engage contacts 162a, 162b, Fig. 15. An insert 134 (not shown) is provided to engage the lower end of door 121b to prevent it being moved to close the switch 93 when the shaver is being transported. Instead of the shaver being of the oscillatory type, as shown, it may be of the reciprocatory or rotary type.
