Abstract

1,018,427. Dry shavers. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1963 [Nov. 13, 1962], No. 33158/63. Heading B4B. In a dry shaver in which a cutter shaft 52 is oscillated from a rotary motor shaft 30, the shaft 52 is connected with a portion of energy storage means which has another portion held in a fixed position so that the energy storage means stores and gives up energy as the shaft 52 oscillates. As shown, the ends of the shaft 52 are bonded to rubber-like blocks 54, 55 which are held in V-grooves 57, 59 and 58, 60 formed in end caps 15,16 of the shaver housing and in projections 20f, 20g of a chassis 20 so that the blocks are stressed in torsion first in one direction and then in the other direction upon oscillation of the shaft 52. The cutter blades 12 are mounted in supports 53a to 53d rigidly secured to the shaft 52 and are urged towards a comb 13 by means of a spring 61. The shaft 52 is driven from the shaft 30 by means of crank-pin 44, 63 connected to the ends of a connecting rod 45. The comb is held in position by a spring 51. The natural frequency of the blocks 54, 55 approaches the frequency of oscillation of the blades 12. The motor bearings 23, 24 are retained in spherical surfaces of projecting portions 20a, 20f of the chassis 20, the portions 20a, 20b being provided with recesses 25, 26 in which oil wicks 27 are disposed. The blocks 54, 55 may be replaced, or supplemented, by springs.
