A sleeve for holding a candle in candlestick or chandelier sockets of various diameters lying between upper and lower limits, is made of natural or synthetic foam rubber and comprises a hollow cylinder 3, Fig. 3 (not shown), for holding a candle 2 therein, and radial ribs 4 on the outer surface of the cylinder 3 and adapted to be deformed to grip the walls of a socket 9, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown). The ribs 4 are slanted at their lower ends 5. A bottom may be provided for the sleeve. In another embodiment, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), alternate ribs 4 are of different radial length. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the radial lengths of the ribs 4 diminish from top to bottom of the cylinder. In yet another embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the ribs 6 are disposed horizontally and the radial lengths of the ribs decrease from top to bottom of the cylinder. In yet a further embodiment, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), the cylinder is fluted vertically forming bulges 7 which may be hollow or of cellular material.
