Abstract
The invention comprises 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4 - cyano - 4 - carbalkoxy - 1 - oxa - 2,6 - disilacyclohexanes of formula <FORM:1017619/C3/1> wherein R is an alkyl group containing up to 6 carbon atoms. These compounds may be prepared by reacting a cyanoacetic alkyl ester, 1,3 - di - (bromomethyl) - tetramethyl disiloxane and a tertiary amine (preferably trimethylamine or triethylamine), preferably in the presence of an inert solvent. The functional groups of the oxadisilacyclohexanes may be modified:-reaction with aqueous ammonia yields 2,2,6,6 - tetramethyl - 4 - cyano - 4-carbamido - 1 - oxa - 2,6 - disilacyclohexane; acid hydrolysis yields 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-cyano - 4 - carboxy - 1 - oxa - 2,6 - disilacyclohexane; alkaline hydrolysis followed by acidification yields 2,2,6,6 - tetramethyl - 4 - cyano-4 - carboxy - 1 - oxa - 2,6 - disilacyclohexane which on decarboxylation followed by nitrile hydrogenation gives 2,2,6,6 - tetramethyl - 4 aminomethyl - 1 - oxa - 2,6 - disilacyclohexane. The example describes the preparation of 2,2,6,6 - tetramethyl - 4 - cyano - 4 - carbethoxy -1-oxa-2,6-disilacyclohexane. Uses.-Preparing surface-active siloxanes.
