Abstract

101,759. Warman, S. G. March 29, 1916. Telescopic handles; fixing by s c r e w e d sockets. - Relates to telescopic handles for tools such as shovels, which may be partly collapsed when a short handle is desired, or wholly collapsed along the tool blade for storage or transportation. The inner tube 4 has a cap 7 with a reinforced part 8 screwed at 6 to engage a screwed reinforced part 5 on the outer tube 3, so as to limit the extension thereof. At the lower end of the outer tube 3 is secured a cap 9 externally screwed to engage the threads 16 on a collar 14 having a shoulder 15 and integral with an angle plate 11 united at 13 to a shallow recess 12 in the rear face of the blade 1 of the tool. At the upper end of the inner tube 4 are two threaded portions 17, 18 adapted respectively, as the handle is being collapsed, to screw into the thread 5 on the outer tube 3 and into the thread 16 on the collar 14 after the cap 9 has been unscrewed therefrom, as shown in Fig. 3, which also shows the handle wholly collapsed, in which position the tip of the blade is protected by the cap 9. A short crosstube 20 is secured in a groove 19 at the outer end of the inner tube 4, to serve as a handle, by means of a long rod 21 passing through the tube 4 and screwing at 7 into the reinforced part 8,
