Dielectric heating apparatus comprises a plurality of rod electrodes arranged in two groups 1 ... 10 and 11 ... 20, the odd numbered rods 1 ... 9 and 11 ... 19 being connected to bus-bars 28, 29 energized from an H.F. supply, and the even-numbered rods 2 . . . 10 and 12 ... 20 being connected to two plates 31, 32, which with a movable plate 36 form a tuning capacitor in a series circuit, Fig. 1 (not shown). In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 4, 6 (not shown), the tuning capacitor is in parallel with the electrode capacitances.
