Abstract

1,017,093. Bumpers, fenders. R. V. DANKS. Nov. 2, 1962 [Nov. 3, 1961], No. 39454/61. Headings B7J and B7S. A bumper strip or fender for the side of a vehicle or ship, comprises a main strip 10, Fig. 1, of rubber or other resilient material, having a longitudinal channel 13 which receives a retaining strip element 16 made of harder material e.g. metal, the side walls 14 of the channel being undercut at 15 to receive the edges of the element 16, and the bumper strip being secured in place by fastening elements, e.g. screws, passing through guide recesses 17 or holes in the strip 16 and through the strip 10. The latter may be formed with holes to receive the fastening elements. The protruding ends of the strip 16 receive moulded end pieces 25, Fig. 7, each having a recess 26 to receive the strip end, the piece 25 having a transverse screw-receiving hole 27 passing across the recess 26. In a modification the undercut side walls of the recess facing the base of the recess are formed with tapered ribs to engage the strip 16. The main strip 10 may have two channels each receiving a strip 16.
