Abstract
1,017,011. Apparatus for casting from ladles. O. ISENSCHMID. Jan. 1, 1964, No. 38/64. Heading F4B. A casting ladle 12 is suspended from a chain 9 in such a way that both vertical movement and tilting of the ladle may be effected by a single electric hoist 4 through a suspension tackle 3 including a tube 5 and a second tube 6 which may move telescopically along tube 5, vertical movement of ladle 12 being effected by coupling tube 6 to chain 9, and tilting by intercoupling tubes 5 and 6 together. The tackle 3 carried on overhead rails 2 by crane crab 1 is welded to rectangular longitudinally slotted tube 5, over which tube 6 welded to yoke 7 carrying abutments 8, is telescopically mounted. From hoist 4, bush roller chain 9 passes inside tubes 5 and 6 around suspension roller 10 carrying ladle support 11 to be anchored at lug 13 on tube 6. At the top and inside of tube 6 is mounted a guide and abutment member through which chain 9 passes, having projecting jaws 18 between which push rod 19, operated at its lower end by control lever 21, may be moved to engage either coupling members 33 mounted on crank levers 29 which are pivotably attached to jaws 18 and so to tube 6, with mating members 34 on tube 5 to intercouple the tubes 5, 6 or to engage clamping jaw 32 of lever 28 similarly pivotably attached to jaws 18 with chain 9 against the rear wall of the guide and abutment member to couple chain 9 to tube 6 (as shown in Fig. 2a). The teeth of members 33 and 34, urged into engagement by an adjustable compression spring are so shaped as to form a one-way slipping clutch to allow tube 6 to move upwardly relative to tube 5 against the compression spring 35. To raise and lower ladle 12 with chain 9 and tube 6 coupled (as shown in Fig. 2a) the hoist 4 lifts chain 9 and tube 6 which telescopes over tube 5, and all the points suspended therefrom. To tilt the ladle the chain 9 and tube 6 are disengaged, and the tubes 5, 6, interengaged by coupling members 33, 34 by control lever 21, via push rod 19 and on starting hoist 4, chain 9 raises support 11 and ladle lugs 15, but as tube 6 is now coupled to tube 5, then yoke 7 and abutments 8 cannot move so ladle 12 tilts anticlockwise. Relowering the hoist restraightens the tilt. Should the hoist 4 fail to stop operating on tilting, the slipping clutch 33, 34 then allows upward movement of tube 6 to convert the tilting to a raising motion.
