1,016,199. Grinding and lapping knife blades. IMPERIAL KNIFE ASSOCIATED COMPANIES Inc. Oct. 15, 1964 [April 13, 1964], No. 42162/64. Heading B3D. [Also in Division B4] A method of making a knife blade from a blank comprises grinding the flanks of the blank to form a blade section with an included angle of between 7 and 15 degrees, then setting the cutting edge of the blade by grinding the narrow portion of the blade to form a blade section, the faces of which immediately adjacent the cutting edge have an included angle of between 18 and 28 degrees, the grinding operations being so performed that the blade has a root thickness of 0À002 to 0À012 inch between the two blade sections, and finally lapping the blade to a fine finish up to 25 micro inches on the faces thereof for a distance of up to at least one-sixteenth of an inch away from the cutting edge.
