Abstract

Reaction products of aromatic, hydroaromatic or aliphatic mono- or poly-isocyanates with high molecular weight hydroxyalkylation products of compounds containing at least 8 C atoms and possessing only one H atom capable of reacting with alkylene oxides containing at least one grouping of the formula -NH-CO-(OR)n-X wherein R is a 2-4 C alkylene, X is the radical of the compound with at least 8 C atoms and n is 20-200, are employed as dyeing assistants. Suitable products may be obtained by reacting at 50-70 DEG C. ethyl isocyanate, stearyl isocyanate, phenyl isocyanate, toluylene diisocyanates, hexamethylene diisocyanates, 1,4diisocyanato - cyclohexane, 4,41 - diisocyanatodicyclohexylmethane, 4,41 - diisocyanato - diphenylmethane, o ,o 1 - diisocyanato - 1,4 - dimethylbenzene or 4,41,411-triisocyanato-triphenylmethane with adducts of ethylene or propylene oxide with lauryl, myristyl, palmityl, stearyl, oleyl or hydroabietyl alcohol, lauric, myristic, palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, abietic or naphthenic acid or isohexyl - phenol, heptylphenol, nonylphenol, dodecyl-phenol, dodecyl-mercaptan or H-methylstearylamine.ALSO:Synthetic fibres, e.g. of polyamides, polyurethanes, aromatic polyesters, polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile or cellulose esters including triacetate, are padded or printed with solutions or suspensions of dyes, prior to fixation by heating, in the presence of water-soluble reaction products of aromatic, hydroaromatic or aliphatic mono- or poly-isocyanates with high molecular weight hydroxy-alkylation products of compounds containing at least 8C atoms and only one H atom which can react with alkylene oxides. The water-soluble reaction products may contain at least one grouping of the formula: <FORM:1016086/D1-D2/1> wherein R is an alkylene radical of 2-4C, X is the radical of a compound containing at least 8C and only one reactive H and n is 20-200. Mixed fabrics of synthetic fibres with wool or cotton may also be padded or printed. The padding liquors and printing pastes may further contain non-ionic or anionic surfactants as well as softening agents, carriers, anti-static and hydrotropic agents. Examples are given in which a variety of dyes are employed, the specified radicals X being derived from stearyl alcohol, stearic acid, abietic acid, oleyl alcohol, oleic acid, normyl-phenol and lauric acid.
