Abstract

1,015,971. Roller conveyers. LAMSON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 23, 1962 [Nov. 23, 1961], No. 41919/61. Heading B8A. An article 19 travels down an inclined infeed roller conveyer 1 under gravity, Fig. 2 and Figs. 1, 3 (not shown), contacts a plate 13 and actuates an electric sensing switch 11 which causes an air cylinder 10 to lift a frame 3 by a parallel linkage 7 pivoted on a support 6. The frame 3 has a pair of V-groove aluminium bars 8 supporting a pair of endless V-belts 9a, 9b which pass round pulleys 16a driven by a continuously running electric motor 14 via a belt 15 and a pulley 16. The belts 9a, 9b also pass over idler pulleys 17. The action of lifting the frame 3 brings the belts 9a, 9b into contact with the article 19, lifts it from the roller conveyer 1 and transfers it to an outfeed roller conveyer 2. A second switch 18 on the outfeed conveyer 2, operated by the passage of the article 19 causes the air cylinder to return the frame 3 to its lower position. In the modification illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown) infeed conveyer 1 meets a through conveyer 20 at a T-junction. The frame 3 is normally in the raised position, an electric switch 21 causing it to be lowered as an article 19 approaches. In the arrangement in Fig. 5 (not shown) both conveyers 1 and 20 may be through conveyers, a photo-electric cell and light source 22, 23 sensing an article 19 on the conveyer 1, while a photo-electric cell and light source 24, 25 sense an article on conveyer 20. This arrangement may be used to transfer articles from conveyer 20 to conveyer 1. Selector switches and electric circuits (not shown) are provided to determine whether the articles on the conveyers pass lengthwise thereof or are diverted.
