Abstract

1,015,754. Drafting apparatus. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. March 12, 1963 [March 12, 1962], No. 9790/63. Heading D1D. An element 127 is disposed between and carried in rubbing engagement by the bottom rolls 17, 21 of succeeding pairs of drafty rolls 15,17 and 19, 21, the element thus acting to clean the rolls 17, 21 and support the fibres F passing through the drafting device. As shown, the element 127 which is preferably made of the substance known under the Registered Trade Mark "Delvin", has arcuate plate portions 127m, 127n engaging the rolls and a bridging portion having a surface 127c for supporting the fibres F. The element is also provided with a cut away portion 127g to prevent loose fibres being trapped between the plate 127m and the roller 17. The element is used in conjunction with an upper apron assembly comprising a block 125 which guides a belt 23 and has an arcuate surface 125a engaging the roller 23 to clean it. The block 125 has defending lucks 129 which have protrusions 129a engageable with indentations 127i in the element 127, the indentations being elongated so that the block 125 may, to a limited extent, be self adjusting in the direction of fibre travel. The whole assembly is laterally located by lugs 125d on the block 125 engaging either side of the roller boss 15. In another form in which the lower element 127 is formed from a solid block, the element 127 and block 125 are joined by T-shaped brackets screwed to their sides, elongated holes being provided in the brackets so that the separation of the element 127 and block 125 and the position of the block 125 relative to the roller 19 may be adjusted. The fibre engaging surface 127c of element 127 is preferably convex particularly adjacent its leading edge; a tapered, fibre condensing groove may be formed in the surface 127c. The assembly of element 127 and block 125 may be laterally traversed.
