Abstract
1,015,552. Mounting engines. R. G. COLLIER. Sept. 14, 1964 [Sept. 12, 1963], No. 36058/63. Addition to 757,887. Heading B7H [Also in Division F1] In a modification to the motor cycle engine mounting plate disclosed in the parent Specification, the portions straddling the rear wheel are omitted. The mounting plate 10, of cast or welded aluminium, has lugs 11 for attachment to the motor cycle frame. The engine connecting rods pass through openings 14 and connect to a crank-shaft journalled in bearings supported in walls integral with the mounting plate. A variable speed gear mainshaft and a layshaft are journalled in bearings supported by the walls of an integral gear-box. Channels 28 and 26 together form a housing 24 for the final drive gear which is driven by a primary chain from the crank-shaft. Housing 24 excludes gear 25 from oil in casing 12. A final drive chain case, attached to housing 24 by a flexible sleeve, may be mounted for movement with a rearsuspension arm. In an alternative arrangement the final drive chain extends through a vertical opening formed partly in the mounting plate and partly in the rear casing wall with the chain case forming an extension of the main oil bath. Casing 12 may be a casting or a sheet metal pressing and the mounting plate may be attached to the motor cycle frame by straps.
