Abstract

1,015,514. Variable frequency transmitters; radio receiving circuits. L. ROHDE and H. SCHWARZ, [trading as ROHDE & SCHWARZ]. Dec.14, 1962 [Dec. 16, 1961], No. 47370/62. Headings H3Q and H4L. A variable frequency transmitter has a control stage for selecting the output frequency, which is switchable in decades, in series with a tunable power amplifier whose frequency is also switchable in decades, means being provided for the simultaneous switching of corresponding decades in the control and amplifier stages. The invention is also applicable to the simultaneous tuning of the local oscillator and R.F. stage in a superheterodyne receiver. A transmitter comprises a control stage 1 with three decades switches 3,4 and 5 and a power amplifier stage 2 having several amplifier stages 6, 7 and 8 coupled by network 9 and 10. The coupling networks 9, 10 are in the form of tuned oscillator circuits with switchable frequency ranges, arranged so that network 9 has two coarse steps corresponding to the first two decades of stage 1 while network 10 contains three decades identical with stage 1. The settings of these decades are effected simultaneously by dials 14, 15, 16, over controlling lines 11, 12 and 13 respectively. The settings may be effected mechanically or electrically by relays, Fig. 2 (not shown), operated by push buttons at a remote station.
