Abstract

101,549. Hommel, W. March 6, 1915, [Convention date]. Charges, agitating.-In a roasting-furnace with a reciprocating rabble which moves transversely across the furnace and is formed with two sets of staggered and oppositely-arranged teeth c having obliquely-placed working faces d at right-angles to the hearth for moving the materials longitudinally through the furnace, the face e of each tooth is inclined, preferably to a sharp edge g, to give a plough-shaped formation to the outer portion of the tooth. The ore rides over these inclined surfaces, and accumulations at the sides of the furnace are prevented. The teeth are connected by bars i, triangular in cross-section, which level any heaps of ore collected at the sides of the furnace between the teeth. Ribs m ending in vertical knife-edges n are provided to facilitate penetration of the ore, and to assist in directing it over the inclines. The outer portion of each tooth may be cut away to form a vertical face o.
