Abstract

101,522. Ernst, E. June 16, 1916. Limbs, artificial.-Comprises a hip-joint for artificial legs with means for locking the joint when the wearer is standing. The thigh portion B of the leg is pivoted at C to the bifurcated end of a plate A, which is secured to the plate or socket that abuts against the remaining portion of the injured limb. When the members A, B are in alinement, a tail-piece B<2> of the member B registers with the slotted end of the member A, so that the sliding sleeve D can be moved over the tail-piece by the spring D<3> to lock the joint. By means of the handle D<5>, the frame D<1> and the attached sleeve D can be moved to unlock the joint. In a modified construction, Fig. 7, the sleeve D is moved in both directions by hand through the medium of a curved finger-grip on the end of the rod D<6>. A retaining-spring D' engages opposite sides of the member D in the locked and unlocked positions respectively.
