1,015,179. Colour television. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT. Jan. 13, 1964 [Feb. 28, 1963], No. 1369/64. Heading H4F. A colour television standards changer for transforming colour television signals according to the modified NTSC system (PAL system), in which one of the two colour quadrature modulated subcarrier vectors (Q<SP>1</SP> or I<SP>1</SP>) is periodically reversed in phase at line frequency, into signals according to the normal NTSC system, comprises means for feeding the complete video signal to a filter 2 which rejects the colour subcarrier and passes the brightness signal (2y<SP>1</SP>) to combining circuit 4; means for feeding the complete video signal to a filter 6 which selects and passes the colour subcarrier and its sidebands (a) through a 180 degrees phase shifter to combining circuit 8, (b) directly to combining circuit 11, (c) through a line duration delay circuit and adjustable phase shifter 10 to combining circuits 8 and 11, the output from combining circuit 11 (2Q<SP>1</SP>) being fed to combining circuit 4 and the output from combining circuit 8 (2I<SP>1</SP> or - 2I<SP>1</SP>) being fed directly or through a 180 degrees phase shifter 15 to combining circuit 4, the transformed signals being taken off along line 16. The output from stage 8 yields the signals 2I<SP>1</SP> and - 2I1 alternately, I<SP>1</SP> being the colour subcarrier vector (difference signal) which is periodically reversed through 180 degrees in the PAL system, and by means of the 180 degrees phase shifter 15 and switch 14 the signal supplied to stage 4 is + 2I<SP>1</SP>. The signals + 2I<SP>1</SP>, + 2Q<SP>1</SP> and 2y<SP>1</SP> thus form the normal NTSC signal in combining circuit 4. A normal NTSC signal may pass without obstruction through the standards changer.
